Doctoral Program in Education

Academic hub for future professors and researchers of education sciences

This degree program is designed for future professors and researchers capable to engage in cutting-edge studies in various education sciences, while following the academic heritage of Japanese education sciences advanced with the development of modern education since 1872. In today’s society, the state of education is defined by diverse and complex factors in global contexts and it is not easy to accurately grasp and solve the educational issues that we face. This program consists of 17 academic fields and doctoral thesis guidance is provided under a collaborative system while esteeming expertise in each field. A great strength of this program is that it provides opportunities for research exchange with prominent scholars active in universities, research institutes, and other academic organizations across Japan, including the alumni of the predecessor schools.

Curriculum

Requirements for Completion

Students of the Doctoral Program must earn the specified credits (more than 6 credits) after studying more than three years and submit a doctoral thesis. You must pass the assessment and final examination after the necessary research guidance.

However, those who have achieved outstanding results shall be eligible to shorten the period of enrollment to at least one year.

Students must earn 2 credits from the Required Subjects in Pedagogics. Advanced Lecture on Education Ⅰ, Advanced Lecture on Education II

Students must earn at least 1 credit from the Foundation Subjects for major (Compulsory Elective Subjects).

Seminar on Education I, Seminar on Education II, Methodology on Field Work Students must earn at least 3 credits from the Specialized Subjects (See below) for their major (Compulsory Elective Subjects)

Official Language
The official language is Japanese. However, the meeting of Subprogram in International Education will be held in both Japanese and English.

If you would like to participate onsite, you have to submit the health check sheet, in which you record your health condition for 14 days, to the reception desk on that day.
